The Supreme Court on Wednesday directed the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission to hand over to the Union Public Service Commission answer sheets of 65 candidates whose appointment as Group I officers were quashed for irregularities in the selection test.
A Bench led by Justice Anil R. Dave passed the order on an application by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission for modifying a July 2014 apex court order quashing the appointments made.
The Supreme Court had upheld a Madras High Court’s order setting aside the selection and appointment of the candidates because of exam malpractices in 2000-2001.
At present, of a total 91 candidates, 15 have opted for other jobs, three have died, eight found qualified for selection in re-evaluation and 65 are left.
The apex court ordered the TNPSC to hand over their answer sheets to the UPSC in two weeks, and directed the UPSC to re-visit their cases and file a report in the court within two months by the next date of hearing on May 6.
The candidates are alleged to have committed various violations while taking their test, including using sketch pen, pencil, two colours, and making irrelevant markings.
