Unclaimed bag causes tension

July 12, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - DINDIGUL:

An unclaimed bag, which was abandoned in a Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation town bus, created a flutter in the corporation depot at Natham in the district on Monday.

Cleaning staff found the bag inside the town bus plying between Natham and Thuvarankurichi in Tiruchi district on Monday morning. The bus driver had parked the bus in the depot on Sunday night after a routine trip to Thuvarankurichi.

While cleaning the bus, the staff alerted the depot officials who, in turn, informed the head office. Acting on information, Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) from Madurai, led by Inspector Pettha Raj, rushed to the spot and scanned the bag with metal detectors.

When the team members opened the bag, they found a brass vessel, a saffron towel, a coconut, a nylon rope and some sand. A sniffer dog was also pressed into service.

Superintendent of Police A. Saravanan inspected the spot. The entire depot was scanned by the BDDS.

TNSTC General Manager Manickavasagam conducted an enquiry with the staff in the depot.
