Russian tourist begs for alms at Kancheepuram temple as his ATM PIN gets locked

A Russian on Tuesday sat at the entrance of the Sri Kumarakottam temple in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, seeking alms.

A. Evangelin (24), who has a valid passport and visa, came to India on September 24 and arrived in Kancheepuram on Tuesday morning from Chennai. After visiting a few temples in the temple town, he went to an ATM kiosk near the Kumarakottam temple on West Raja Street in the morning. But he couldn’t withdraw money as the PIN got locked.

An apparently frustated Evangelin then decided to beg for alms at the temple entrance, police said.

The Siva Kanchi police reached the temple and brought him to the station. After perusing his travel documents, they reportedly gave some money to him for travel to Chennai.
