The UK-India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI) will extend its leadership development programme to three more States, including Puducherry and Kerala, according to Megha Sunger, Senior Project Manager (Higher Education and Research), UKIERI.
Speaking to The Hindu on the sidelines of the UKIERI conference on ‘Small and Medium Enterprises Development and Managing Challenges’ held here on Saturday, she said the programme, focusing on building and implementing a strategic plan to transform leadership and management, would be extended to government-run schools in Kerala, Puducherry and Maharashtra.
The decision to extend the programme was taken after its remarkable success in Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan, where the first phase was implemented.
In addition to three more States, the same programme would continue in Rajasthan.
She said it would be implemented with the active participation of the United Kingdom, the Ministry of Human Resources and Development and a few more agencies in providing the opportunities to teachers and students for capacity building.
About 25,000 exchanges of visits of researchers, staff and students had taken place since 2006. About 35 million young people from both countries had benefited from the programme.
