An upper kindergarten class teacher of a private school at Thunisaramedu near here on Thursday allegedly beat up and locked up a four-year old student in a watchman’s room for not paying school fees.

S. Nishanthan on his return home narrated the incident to his father Sivakumar, former president of the Thunisaramedu panchayat.

He took it up with the school management but it acted indifferently, Mr. Sivakumar said. Having learnt about the episode, parents of other students gathered in front of the school and held up the traffic for about an hour on Friday morning.

Chidambaram Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajaraman rushed to the spot and held talks with the parents and the management.

On the assurance of the police that suitable remedial measures would be taken by the management, the parents withdrew their agitation.
