Two workers critically injured in fire accident near Sattur

The incident took place at a cracker unit; the fire did not destroy any of the buildings

Two workers were critically injured in a fire accident at a cracker unit near Sattur in Virudhunagar district on Tuesday.

The injured, M. Balamurugan (35) and M. Ramachandran (36), of Elumichaipatti, were admitted to the Government hospital in Sivakasi.

The police said that the duo had suffered over 90% burns. Friction while mixing chemicals for making crackers led to the accident at Pandiselvi fireworks unit at Elumichaipatti.

A ball of fire had engulfed the duo who had arrived earlier for the mixing work at around 7.15 a.m. The fire did not destroy any of the buildings, the police said.

The Foreman, Mahendra Kumar, has been arrested. No one else was injured in the accident, the Sattur Deputy Superintendent of Police, S. Narayanan, who inspected the scene of accident, said.
