Two women were found murdered in secluded places – one near Valliyoor and the other near Thisaiyanvilai – in the district on Thursday.

Police said that an unidentified woman was found murdered in a dry channel along Kovaneri– Meenakshipuram Road near Valliyoor.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Valliyoor) Balaji and Inspector of Police Anbu Prakash visited the spot and sent the body for post-mortem.

Even as the police started the investigation, one Petchimuthu (33) of Madhavaram in Chennai surrendered before a court at Nanguneri on Thursday.

He was remanded in judicial custody, and lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison.

During investigation, the police found that the deceased was P. Vijayalakshmi (28), a sanitary worker of Nagercoil municipality.

As her husband Petchimuthu suspected that Vijayalakshmi had an extra-marital affair, he came to Nagercoil a couple of days ago and took his wife on a bike on the pretext of going to a relative’s house.

When he reached Kovaneri– Meenakshipuram Road, Petchimuthu allegedly hacked her to death.

As the police started searching for Petchimuthu, he surrendered before the court.

Another woman, aged about 30, was found murdered near Thisaiyanvilai– Karampadu Road on Thursday.

When the passers-by noticed the body they alerted Thisaiyanvilai police.

Identity unestablished

As the face of the decomposed body had been smashed with stones, the police could not establish the identity of the deceased.

Further investigations are on.
