Two tourists from Tuticorin killed

Two persons from Tuticorin district were killed in a road accident near Chekkanoorani in the early hours of Thursday.

The police identified the deceased as S. Anburaj (35) of Meelavittan and P. Karukavelraja (25) of Puthiyamuthur.  

The police said that a group of tourists from the district were on a tour to Munnar in Kerala.  

They had left Tuticorin in an SUV at around midnight.  When the vehicle was proceeding on the Madurai-Theni highway near Valandur, the driver, Anburaj, lost control of the vehicle after one of the rear tyres burst at around 4.30 a.m.

Four others sustained injuries and were treated at the Government hospital in Usilampatti.  The Valandur police are investigating the incident.
