Two employees of the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) in Nemili were crushed to death by the electric pillars, which fell on them when the tractor trailer in which they were carrying nine pillars from the Tangedco warehouse in Arakkonam to Nemili got delinked from the tractor and capsized near Nagavedu in Arakkonam taluk on Friday afternoon.

According to the Arakkonam taluk police sources, four Tangedco employees were returning to Nemili carrying pillars in the tractor trailer when the accident occurred. Two employees — Palani and Kumar — jumped out and escaped on seeing the trailer go berserk after getting delinked. The other two employees — T. Selvakumar (40) of Attupakkam colony and M. Soundararajan (40) of Pallur colony — who remained in the trailer were crushed to death under the heavy pillars which fell down on them while capsizing.
