The Coimbatore Rural Police on Sunday have secured two AIADMK activists on charges of making phone calls threatening to plant bombs in the house and vehicle of Actor Vadivelu who is campaigning for the Democratic Progressive Alliance (DPA) candidates in the ensuing Assembly elections.
In connection with the threat phone calls, Vadivelu had preferred a complaint with the Chennai City Police and the Chennai City Police had already registered a case.
The actor had received a threat from an anonymous caller on Saturday. T. Muthiah, manager of actor Vadivelu, who received a threat on his mobile phone said that the caller warned of dire consequences if Vadivelu continued his election campaign.
“The person also said that the van Vadivelu uses for campaigning would be blown up using a bomb and petrol bombs will be hurled at his office in Saligramam,” Mr. Muthiah added.
The police reportedly traced the calls to Coimbatore. Based on the alert, sleuths from the Thudialur police in Coimbatore Rural District secured Karuppasamy and Kandasamy both of whom are said to be AIADMK activists.
The duo are being taken to Chennai for further investigations. The actor had met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi at Annamalai University guest house in Chidambaram on Sunday morning and broached the subject to him.
