Two Russell’s Vipers caught in house

Personnel attached to the Gudiyatham Forest Range on Tuesday caught two venomous Russell’s Viper snakes from the backyard of a house in Ramapuram. The two snakes would be released in the Mordhana Reserve Forest during night hours.

According to L. Kumar, forest range officer of Gudiyatham, the resident, Jakkubai, had spotted the snakes in the backyard of her house at Ramapuram under dry coconut fronds.

“We received information from the resident at about 3 p.m. A team of seven personnel from the range reached the house in 10 minutes. We caught the two snakes that were Russell’s Viper at about 5 p.m.,” Mr. Kumar said.

He said that the two snakes were approximately three to four feet long. Russell’s Viper was venomous. “We will release the snakes into the Mordhana Reserve Forest at night,” he added.
