DINDIGUL

Two policemen were suspended on Sunday on a charge of negligence of duty after an accused escaped from their custody here in the early hours of Saturday.

The suspended were grade I constables Saravanakumar and Arulappan. Meanwhile, after a 30-hour-long intense search for the escapee accused, Muthusamy (42) of Anampatti near Manapparai in Tiruchi district, Natham police arrested him.

On Friday, Natham Judicial Magistrate Court had directed the police to arrest Muthusamy in connection with a case and produce him before the court. Saravanakumar and Arulappan produced him before the court, which remanded him in 15 days’ judicial custody.

When they brought him to Dindigul District Jail, he developed some health problem and the two policemen took him to Dindigul Government Hospital for treatment. He was admitted as inpatient as his blood pressure shot up.

The two policemen were deputed at the GH to guard him. But the accused managed to escape from the hospital.
