Two police quarters, seven stations coming up

Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation Limited, which has taken up construction of two police quarters, seven new police stations and two camp offices for Deputy Superintendents of Police, would be completing most of the projects in the next six months.

After Superintendent of Police N. Manivannan suggested speeding up of work, the Corporation has almost made ready 58 unit police quarters built near Bazaar police station for the town police at a cost of Rs 6 crore. The construction work has been completed and the quarters would be handed over to the police personnel soon.

The complex has three types of flats — one flat for Inspector of police with 850 sq. ft., three for Sub Inspectors with 730 sq. ft. and 54 for constables with 650 sq.ft., all with attached bathrooms. The spacious flats had heat reflective tiles on roof, teakwood for doors and window frames and granites for flooring, sources in the Housing Corporation said.

Similarly, a 19-unit quarters was being built for police personnel in Thondi at a cost of Rs 1.75 crore besides a separate quarters for an Inspector of Police and two Sub Inspectors at Thiruvadanai at a cost of Rs. 70 lakh.

For the first time, new camp offices have been provided for DSPs. The camp offices for Thiruvadanai and Kilakarai DSPs, built at a cost of Rs. 35 lakh each, would be completed in a week’s time.

The corporation has also taken up construction of seven new police stations, four with Police Modernisation Fund and two with funds sanctioned by the State government. The new police stations at Parthibanur, Thirupalaikudi, Keezhathooval, Uthirakosamangai and RS Mangalam, were being built at a cost of Rs. 65 lakh each with Police Modernisation Fund and at Thiruvadanai (all women police station) and Theriruveli, at a cost of Rs. 40 lakh each, with State government fund. Except at Uthirakosamangai and RS Mangalam, work was progressing in all other places, the sources added.
