Two Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) cadre who allegedly triggered an explosion in a bid to blow up a culvert on May 2 were detained under the National Security Act (NSA) on Tuesday.

According to police sources, Sugendran (40) and Theerthalingam (25) of Karthankulam near Morappur were arrested on charges of causing the explosion. Police seized explosive substances used to make the crude country bomb from their premises.

“During interrogation, the duo confessed to having triggered the blast to condemn the arrest PMK founder S. Ramadoss and other party and Vanniyar Sangam functionaries. Special teams are on the lookout for a few others involved in the sabotage conspiracy,” a police official said.

Acting on the recommendations of Dharmapuri Superintendent of Police Asra Garg, District Collector R. Lilly issued the detention orders late on Tuesday night.
