The rural police on Tuesday picked up two persons for questioning in connection with the murder of a financier here recently.

On March 1, an unidentified body in a decomposed state was found half-buried in Kappukadu. The body was exhumed and post-mortem examination was carried out. The Vazhapadi police registered a case of suspicious death. Later, the deceased was identified as S. Suresh Kumar, a television mechanic and a financier.

Inquiries revealed that he went missing from February 24. Since he was involved in usury trade, the borrowers’ lists were taken.

His mobile call records were analysed that showed that the last call he received was from V. Balumani (31), who runs a photocopy shop in Vazhapadi. He had earlier worked in a polytechnic college in Vazhapadi.

It was found that Balumani borrowed Rs. 3 lakh from Suresh Kumar and had already paid Rs. 4.50 lakh, including interest.

However, Suresh Kumar demanded more money and threatened Balumani. Balumani along with his friend P. Vetri Vendan, and with the help of his former student C. Kumaravel (24), a dropout, decided to take revenge.

On February 24, Vetri Vendan called Suresh Kumar and said that there was a problem in the television. When Suresh Kumar came, the three killed him by slitting his throat.

They took the body and buried in the forest area.

Balumani and Kumaravel were picked up while Vetri Vendan is at large.

Sources said the Section would be altered to murder and the two arrested soon.
