Two persons, including a six-year-old girl, were killed on the spot and three others injured when the car they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge on Batlagundu Bypass near here on Wednesday.

The deceased were Mohana, mother-in-law of Hari Prasad (35), and his daughter H. Dhanushkasri (6).

Hari Prasad (35), an Indian Air Force airman based in Bangalore, his wife H. Indhu Rani (30) and his another daughter H. Anjana (9), who sustained injuries were rushed to Batlagundu Government Hospital for treatment. Later, they were referred to a private hospital in Madurai.

The family was going to Kodaikanal from Bangalore, and Hari Prasad was driving the car. Suddenly one of the front tyres burst, and the car skidded off the road and fell into the roadside gorge. The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the fall.

Police said Indu Rani was the daughter of a leading sweet manufacturer in Tirunelveli. A case has been registered in this connection.
