Two killed, two injured in road accident

Two persons were killed and two others sustained injuries when the driver of a sand-laden lorry lost control of the vehicle and hit a pedestrian, a two-wheeler and a cyclist at Kanjanur near here on Monday evening.

Driver arrested

Police have arrested the lorry driver Krishnamurthy of Pidagam colony and charged him with drunk driving.

Police said the accident occurred when the lorry carrying sand from Kandamadi hit Malar (35) wife of Jayabal of Kanjanur killing her on the spot.

Lorry runs amok

Then the driver lost control and the lorry ran amok. The vehilce hit two persons riding a two-wheeler.

It also rammed into a cyclist Venkatesan of Narasinganur before coming to a complete halt.

Anandapadmanabhan (32) was riding the two-wheeler while Anandan (25) of Villupuram was sitting pillion.

Succumbed

The duo sustained seriousinjuries and were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital at Mundiyambakkam where Anandapadmanabhan succumbed.

A case has been registered by the police.
