Two women died on the spot after they were hit by a speeding car near Government College of Engineering on the Salem – Bangalore National Highway here on Friday evening.
The police said that Pongodai (40) and Vasantha (50), both from Dalmia Board area, were returning home from a temple in the area. While they tried to cross the road near the college, a car from Bangalore hit them and sped away. Both died on the spot.
Their bodies were taken to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College Hospital.
The public informed the police who intercepted the car near Sagoserve on the highway.
The driver and others in the car were being questioned.
