Two engineering students drowned in the Cauvery at Nerur near here on Sunday.
The victims were M. Ramkumar (20) of Chinnandankoil and S. Muralidharan (21) of Vadivel Nagar in Karur. Ramkumar was a second year student of an engineering college in Karur, and Muralidharan was studying in a private engineering college in Pollachi in Coimbatore district.
According to sources, they were part of a six-member group of youngsters, who had gone to bath in the Cauvery, which had a flow of water after Mettur dam was opened to facilitate supply of drinking water a few days ago.
Karur police have registered a case.
