Police blame it on friction while transporting explosives

Two workers of a firecracker unit near here were killed in a blast on Monday.

The police said that friction while transporting explosive material in a trolley triggered the blast. The dead were identified as M. Mani (35) and P. Antony (25) of Vallampatti. K. Ashwini (22) sustained injuries as flying debris hit her on her chin.

Two sheds were completely damaged and two others partially.

Solatium sanctioned

Special Correspondent from Chennai writes:

Chief Minister Jayalalithaa announced solatium of Rs.1 lakh each to the families of the two victims.

A release stated that the Chief Minister expressed condolences to the family members of the dead.

The injured was provided Rs.6,000.
