Two buried alive

Two workers digging a ring well in Kuthukkal Valasai near Tirupullani near here on Monday were buried alive. Two others managed to escape.

Police and Fire and Rescue Services sources said the two workers who died were digging a 20-foot-deep well while the other two were clearing the sand in a basket.

Head severed

People in the area tried to rescue the workers using an earthmover, but abandoned the work after the head of one of the workers, identified as K. Palpandi (45), was severed.

As many as 40 fire service personnel took five hours to remove the body of C Chinnaiah (30) and the torso of Palpandi, the sources said.
