Two bridges to be opened in April next year

179 roads works undertaken at Rs. 245.22 crore in the district

Work on construction of the additional bridge across the River Cauvery connecting Erode city and Pallipalayam Town and the Railway over Bridge (ROB) at SPB Colony would be thrown open for public in April 2017.

Collector V. Dakshinamoorthy along with officials of State Highways Department inspected the ongoing road works implemented by the department in the district on Wednesday.

Widening of the Namakkal – Tiruchengode Road to four lane for 30 km at a cost of Rs. 126 crore was currently in progress. This is the first four lane widening project implemented by the highways department in the State. Using the measuring gadgets, the Collector measured the tar level and also checked the quality of road being laid. Also, the construction of over bridge in Velagoundampatti was also inspected. The widening of Omalur – Sankari – Tiruchengodu – Paramathi Road for 26.20 km at Rs. 112.99 crore was also inspected. The ROB at SPB Colony being constructed at Rs. 44.15 crore and the bridge across River Cauvery constructed at Rs. 26 crore was also inspected.

Addressing reporters, Mr. Dakshinamoorthy said that the construction and maintenance wing of the State Highways Department of the district is currently implementing 154 road works at Rs. 134.47 crore and 18 works at Rs. 3.40 crore under the Road Safety Scheme. With funding from various organisations, the department is implementing the ROB at SPB Colony, bridge across River Cauvery and other road works. “A total of 179 works were being implemented at a cost of Rs. 245.22 crore for the year 2015-16 at various parts of the district”, he added.
