Two siblings, P. Nitish Kannan (11) and Pradeesh (7), residents of Sivan Koil Street, drowned in the Pasupatheeswarar temple tank at Thiruvetkalam here on Sunday.

The bodies were retrieved by the fire service personnel on Monday.

The police sources said that the brothers, studying Class V and Class II respectively in a government-aided school, left the house in the forenoon of Sunday telling their mother Chithra that they were going to play.

Their father Palanivelu was away working in a petrol bunk. Even late in the night the boys did not return home. Therefore, the parents started searching for them. On Monday morning passersby informed the police that something was floating in the tank.

The bodies were retrieved and sent for post-mortem.
