Twin sisters T.S. Aarthi and T.S. Anitha of Neyveli competed with each other to top the list in the Plus -Two examinations in Cuddalore district.
However, the elder has managed to become the district topper by a whisker while the younger sister has to be content with the third position. But the difference between them is just two marks.
Surprisingly, both the sisters have chosen to study the same subject in the same school, Jawahar Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Neyveli. Aarthi has scored 1188 out of 1200 marks. Anitha has obtained 1186.
In the Secondary School Leaving Examination Anitha (485/500) outscored her elder sibling Aarthi (481/500). But in the Plus-Two examinations the latter outwitted the former.
The twin sisters told The Hindu that they were very much interested in pursuing Chartered Accountancy. It was not only their desire but also that of their father Sivakumar, an engineer in the Thermal Power Station-I of the Neyveli Lignite Corporation.
Mr. Sivakumar was keen on doing the CA course, but owing to certain circumstances he had to join the engineering course. His wife Chitra is a homemaker who ably assisted the daughters in their academic performance.
R. Ezhilovia of CK Matriculation School, Cuddalore, with 1187 out of 1200 marks has attained the second place in the district.
Daughter of Rathinavel, a teacher in the Cuddalore Old Town Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Ezhilovia wants to join the medical course. It is the aim of Ezhilovia to become a cardiologist.
District Collector R. Kirlosh Kumar and Chief Educational Officer Joseph Antonyraj felicitated the three meritorious students.
The toppers of the government schools are as follows: R. Raja (1151) of Mamangalam government higher secondary school, V. Divya Bharathi (1148) and V. Gayathri (1146), both from the Chidambaram Government Girls Higher Secondary School.
The achievers from the aided schools are: R. Umaiyal (1168) and R. Kokilavani (1160) (first and third) of Sri Ramakrishna Higher Secondary School, Chidambaram, and R. Haripriya (1164) (second) of St. Anne’s Higher Secondary School, Cuddalore.
As many as 25 schools in the district have secured cent per cent results. Pachaiyappa Higher Secondary School at Chidambaram is the sole exception to achieve less than 40 per cent pass (its pass percentage is just 36.05).
It is to be noted that this time around Cuddalore district has verily improved upon the Plus Two results. The pass percentage this year is 84.16 against last year’s 72.79 per cent, an increase of 11.37 per cent.
