The district administration is making preparations for the smooth conduct of the annual feast festival of Our Lady of Snows Shrine Basilica. Collector Ashish Kumar convened a meeting of officials from various departments here on Saturday to discuss the arrangements to be made.

Since a large number of people from various places were expected to take part in the 11-day festival, which will begin with the flag hoisting on July 26, 17 CCTV cameras will be installed on various roads leading to the Basilica to increase surveillance, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Tuticorin Town) M.X.F.Besky said.

Adequate number of police personnel will be posted for crime prevention, and patrolling will be intensified. Traffic regulations will be in place for five days from August 1, he said.

It was also decided in the meeting that the Municipal Corporation will ensure supply of drinking water and setting up of toilet facilities for the devotees. Garbage bins will be placed along the Beach Road and the public will be asked to drop litter only in them. The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) will ensure uninterrupted power supply during the festival days. An emergency ambulance will be kept ready round-the-clock to meet any exigency.

Fire brigade will be deployed in the vicinity of the Basilica. Officials from the departments of Police, Revenue, Transport, Highways, Health and Tangedco participated in the meeting.
