Truckers led by the Confederation of Surface Transport Tamil Nadu will suspend trips to Karnataka from January 11 midnight to press for an end to the harassment at checkposts and to protest against the inaction over several incidents in which truck drivers were murdered and cargo looted.

R. Sugumar, Confederation president said an estimated 20,000 trucks, predominantly carrying loads of textiles, copper and cosmetics to Karnataka as well as North Indian States from there, would stop plying via Karnataka to highlight failure of authorities concerned to act against extortion at checkposts or ensure safety of truck drivers.

At least nine drivers had been killed and cargo they were transporting looted in the last two years alone, Mr. Sugumar said.
