Lessons for the third trimester for classes VI to VIII will soon find their way online.

The District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Ranipet, which has come out with video lessons in DVD format, will upload the lessons online shortly.

Already, DIET, Ranipet had prepared the lessons for the first and second trimesters for classes VI to VIII. DIET, which comes under the Education Department, produces elementary teachers, provides training for teachers till higher secondary classes and also takes up research activities.

A. Basheer Ahmed, principal of DIET, Ranipet, said the books for the third trimester were released during December and reached students in January.

“We prepared the video lessons for all subjects in the three classes in 20 days. We will upload the lessons online in a few days. It will be available on DIET, Ranipet’s website and can be accessed by students,” he said.

For now, the institute has prepared the video lessons in Tamil, and will come out with the English version soon, he added.

“Unlike in earlier video lessons in which we had teachers appearing in the videos, we have brought in content-based visuals this time. Photographic memory is beneficial for students,” he said.

For instance, if a lesson refers to Salem district, visuals of steel industries and mangoes that the place is popular for have been added to the lessons along with the voice modules.

Mr. Ahmed said there were several enquiries for the video lessons from schools in Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, Kanyakumari, Virudhunagar and Sivaganga.

In fact, he said that the second trimester lessons that were uploaded online during October last year had received 80,000 visitors.

“We selected classes VI to VIII as schools have been provided with LCD facility. The DVDs will bring these LCDs to use,” he added.
