A fight between the driver and assistant driver during shunting of some coaches resulted in a 20 minute delay in departure of Chennai-Palani Express from Dindigul on Friday, railway police officials said.

The driver allegedly hit the assistant driver with an iron rod, they said, adding it was not exactly clear what prompted the fight.

The assistant driver was administered first aid and discharged, the officials said.

The statements of both drivers have been recorded, but case could be registered only on getting a complaint from the affected person, they said.

Railway officials said disciplinary action would be taken against the drivers responsible for the delay.
