Chennai-Nellai Express Train was running an hour behind schedule owing to a defect detected on the tracks near Kalpattichatram in the early hours of Thursday.

Railways sources said that loco pilot of Tuticorin-bound Pearl City Express heard a strange sound after crossing Kalpattichatram railway station and immediately alerted the station.

The station master stopped Nellai Express at Kalpattichatram and sent a technical team to the spot to rectify the defect.

The rails were not properly placed after recent renovation work. After rectifying the defect, the train was allowed to cross the spot. The train reached Dindigul station around 4.20 a.m. instead of its scheduled time of 3.20 a.m.
