Traffic resumes on Bodi-Munnar Ghat Road

May 12, 2014 12:44 pm | Updated 12:44 pm IST - THENI:

The Bodi-Munnar Ghat Road was thrown open for traffic on Sunday afternoon as National Highways workers had cleared debris and boulders from the road within 24 hours. However, it will take some more days to open the Theni-Kumuli Highway.

Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation has started operating buses to Munnar and other parts of Kerala through the Bodi-Munnar road.

Controlled blasts were executed to break big boulders and excavators were used to remove broken boulders from the road.

The work was carried out on a war footing to remove boulders and fragments mixed with soil to restore traffic, said highways officials.

The first landslip occurred on the seventh bend on Wednesday, and another landslip on Friday, paralysing the movement of vehicles. All vehicles had been diverted through the Cumbum Mettu Highway.
