Traffic disrupted on Kondal-Mannankovil road

February 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - Nagapattinam:

The road traffic between Kondal and Mannankovil near Sirkazhi was affected for more than two hours after people from more than 10 villages resorted to road blockade on Thursday urging the district administration to relay the damaged road.

However, highways, revenue and police officials rushed to the spot and persuaded the villages to lift their agitations. But after getting assurance from the Sirkazhi tahasildar, Ramachandran said of the 3 km strength, steps would be taken to relay the road to the stretch of 800 metres and the remaining stretch under NABARD scheme, the villagers withdrew their agitation.

The Sirkazhi town secretary of DMK, M. Anbazagan, led the agitation.
