Towards better rail passenger amenities

CHENNAI: In order to commemorate the Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight from May 26 to June 9, Southern Railways has planned a slew of welfare measures to increase passenger amenities and comfort.

Ashok Kumar Agrawal, general manager, Southern Railways, spoke about the provision of bio-toilets to do away with manual clearing of waste, the Sakthi Padai wherein women RPF personnel will be present to escort women in special EMUs and doubling work undertaken by them at various stretches in the zone.

To make platforms and coaches technology friendly for commuters, WiFi and plug points will be provided. When asked about MRTS and metro integration project, Mr. Agrawal said, “I have written letter to Chairman of Railway Board, a decision will be taken soon.”
