Women have developed a sense of anxiety travelling in private taxis or long-distance buses as reports of several incidents of harassment by drivers or co-passengers keep appearing in the media.
Taking this as a cue, Parveen Travels has launched several safety measures through ‘Respect Women for Life Campaign’ in its vehicles.
A. Sadiq, Director, Parveen Travels, said the campaign for safe journey of women has been launched on buses operated to 35 cities in south India.
“Now, if a woman customer books a seat, the next seat will be automatically allocted for a female passenger,” he said.
The other features of the campaign include display of drivers’ details, GPS tracking of vehicles, fitting of CCTV cameras and appointment of crew based on background verification and social training.
Entering the Guinness
In an attempt to enter the Guinness Book of Records, 43 members of Mahamaharishi Foundation began a 40-hour non-stop Yoga performance at the Senate House, University of Madras, on Saturday.
The event was held in collaboration with the Department of Yoga of the university.
Being conducted ahead of the International Yoga Day to be observed on June 21, the event showcased more than 600 asanas in repeats. Participants included a 5-year-old to senior citizens. With this long stunt, Mahayogam is looking to break its 32-hour long performance, which was entered into the Limca Book of Records.
Not only this, the organisation also taught fundamental aasanas for free to the public over the past two days. (Reporting by
