TNCC threatens to sue Modi

April 18, 2014 12:15 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 12:01 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) on Thursday accused Bharathiya Janata Party’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi of indulging in false and malicious campaign against the Congress and threatened to sue him.

TNCC president B.S. Gnanadesikan in a statement said Mr. Modi should remember that he was a prime ministerial candidate and should refrain from indulging in levelling false and malicious charges in his campaign speeches.

Mr. Gnanadesikan said Mr. Modi was promising welfare of the Tamil race, whereas the BJP’s manifesto had no mention of what the party proposed to do for the Sri Lankan Tamils. “At a time, when Congress nominees are in economic distress, Mr. Modi has chosen to accuse the Congress of distributing wrist watches with the hand symbol to voters”. It was unfortunate that a prime ministerial candidate was spreading baseless accusations in his campaign speech.

In the event of Mr. Modi failing to prove his charge, the Congress would sue him.
