MADURAI
Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) has filed a civil revision petition before the Madras High Court Bench here challenging an ex parte interim order passed by a district court in Thoothukudi directing the association not to permit ‘Albert Tuti Parrots’ team to participate in Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) second season scheduled to begin on Saturday.
The TNCA claimed that the interim order had been passed at the instance of Indian Bank, from which Thoothukudi Sports and Entertainments Private Limited, the owner of the cricket team, had given a bank guarantee. The association also pointed out that the order had been obtained from the district court without even including the team owner as one of the respondents.
Filing an affidavit in support of the civil revision petition, TNCA honorary treasurer V.P. Narasimhan said the association would incur a heavy loss if the TNPL was not conducted as planned since the television broadcasting rights alone had been sold for ₹281 crore for coverage over 10 years.
He said huge amounts had also been collected from sponsors and elaborate arrangements had been made for the successful conduct of the tournament.
