Chief Minister Jayalalithaa has ordered the transfer of students studying in SVS Yoga and Naturopathy College in Villupuram district to government-run colleges.
The order for their transfer was taken to protect the interests of students studying in the institution, Ms. Jayalalithaa said in a statement.
As for homeopathy students in the institution, efforts would be taken to obtain permission from the Central government for their transfer to other colleges, she said.
The Chief Minister further claimed that the college was granted permission during the erstwhile Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime in 2008, which was followed by a provisional affiliation from Dr. MGR Medical University the following year.
Under scrutiny now
Though the institution was given continuous provisional affiliation from 2008-09 t 2014-15, the application to seek affiliation for 2015-16 was presently under the university’s scrutiny.
As for the homeopathy course offered in the college, it was granted permission during the DMK regime in 2011, she said. Though the Central government refused to accept its application, the college was eventually granted permission after it moved the High Court.
“As per the orders of the High Court, the homeopathy course approved the college to admit students for 2014-15 and 2015-16,” she added.
Three girls, all second-year students of the yoga and naturopathy course in SVS Yoga and Naturopathy College, were found dead in a well near the college last week.
Chief Minister had announced a solatium of Rs. one lakh to each of the families and the investigation into the incident was transferred to the CB-CID.
