T.N. to get 11 more post office passport seva kendras

The Ministry of External Affairs and Department of Posts have decided to open a total of 149 new Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) across the country, including 11 new centres for Tamil Nadu and one for Puducherry.

The 11 new Post Office Passport Seva Kendras would be set up at Cuddalore, Dindigul, Namakkal, Perambalur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tirupur, Villupuram, Virudhunagar and Kanniyakumari. As for the Union territory of Puducherry, the new centre would come up at Karaikal.

The Ministry of External Affairs and the Department of Posts had earlier decided to utilise the Head Post Offices (HPO) and other post offices in the country as POPSK for delivery of passport-related services.

In the first phase, it was decided to open 86 POPSKs in the country, of which 52 have already become functional; work is on to open the remaining 34. The 149 new centres would be in addition to the 86 centres, it added.
