TN CM announces slew of measures for police

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Friday announced a slew of measures for the police department totalling over Rs 30 crore, covering infrastructure and new posts among others.

The Chief Minister approved a sum of over Rs 10 crore towards creation of 119 new posts including a Deputy Commissioner and two Assistant Commissioners for the Central Crime Branch (CCB) for Chennai City Police besides procuring 87 patrol vehicles for the force.

A state government release here said she sanctioned Rs 4.81 crore for the construction of SP’s office at Thanjavur since it was presently functioning in an old building. It would come up near the Tamil University.

Among others, she approved a sum of Rs 11.33 crore for construction of barracks for policemen in Tiruvannamalai, a temple town which attracts large number of pilgrims and tourists and ordered the creation of a Scientific wing in the Crime Branch CID division of the state police.

Other sums approved included Rs five crore to procure 1000 computers and Rs 92 lakh to buy chairs meant for people visiting police stations.
