Tiruvannamalai continues good show for second consecutive year

The district achieves pass percentage of 90.67and is placed 21st in the State ranking

The district has phenomenally progressed for the second consecutive year in Plus Two examinations pass percentage and crossed the 90 per cent mark for the first time.

Up by 7.24 per cent

Out of 24,135 students who appeared for the exams this year in Tiruvannamalai district, 21,882 students passed the exam taking the percentage of pass to 90.67 and the district’s position to 21st among other districts of the State. This is 7.24 per cent higher than last year’s 84.43 per cent.

Chief Educational Officer Pon. Kumar has emphatically announced this to reporters. The district was pushed to the last place in 2014 with only 74.4 per cent of students passing.

Education authorities led by then Chief Educational Officer C. Ponnaiah did frenetic introspection and plucking of holes in 2015 that resulted in a big leap.

The district progressed 9.03 per cent last year and its position marginally went up to 29th from 32nd.

In 2016, the Chief Educational Officer Pon. Kumar who took over the reins has shown more aggression and vouched for exam centric approach in teaching in the government schools, and this helped maintain the momentum.

88 per cent

Government schools’ pass percentage in the district stood at 88 per cent.

The number of students who got centum in each subject are Chemistry-15, Biology-5, Botony-1, Computer science-1, Maths-36, Commerce-20, Accountancy-34 and business management-1.
