After functioning from the more than 125-year-old building, the Tirupur North police station would be moved to a new building coming up on an adjacent plot at an outlay of Rs. 1.4 crore.

Puja

With the bhumi puja completed on Monday to symbolically commence the construction for the new building for the station, the work on the three-storied structure was expected to be completed within this year.

“The first and the second floors of the new building will house the law and order as well as crime wings of the Tirupur North police Station, the All Woman Police Station (Tirupur North) and the Tirupur North traffic police unit, with the ground floor to be dedicated for vehicle parking,” the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation (TNPHC) officials told The Hindu.

But much to the relief of people who voice for preserving ancient buildings, the existing one and a quarter century old building would be retained.

“It is going to be used for setting up the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Tirupur North),” Police Housing Corporation officials said.
