In a whirlwind campaign in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency on Saturday, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin said infrastructure development projects worth Rs.237 crore, which the DMK government initiated for Tirupur region, were either shelved or their progress blocked under the present government.
“Work on the flyover from Ramaswamy Muthammal kalyanamandapam to Gajalakshmi theatre and road under bridges near M.G.R statue and T. M. F. Hospital were some of the projects initiated during the previous DMK regime that did not see any progress after the AIADMK government came to power,” he added here on Saturday.
He claimed that it was the initiatives taken by the DMK government that eventually paved way for the release of financial assistance from the Centre to the wet processing sector in the Tirupur apparel cluster. The package helped entrepreneurs to offset the cost incurred for upgrading technology in the common effluent treatment plants for combating pollution.
Mr. Stalin asked what the present AIADMK government did for the people. “Did they keep the promise of tiding over the power crisis or containing the inflation?” he said adding that the AIADMK should be taught a fitting a lesson for poor governance.
“One should remember that the DMK sowed the seeds for formation of TWAD Board with an aim to provide protected drinking water to the masses whereas this government is selling drinking water on a commercial basis,” he said.
