Till now, Rs.40 lakh seized in Sankarankoil

The 12 flying squads and a similar number of static surveillance teams deployed in Sankarankoil Assembly constituency, where a by-election will be held on March 18, have so far seized Rs.40 lakh in “unaccounted money”, 200 gift articles and over 2,500 dhotis and saris.

It has also seized 20 vehicles which were used for electioneering without obtaining permission.

Checks on buses

In a related development, with vigorous checks of vehicles continuing round-the-clock in the constituency, political parties have started using buses for carrying cash.

Consequently, random checks are being carried out on passengers and their belongings for the past few days.

Police Observer for the by-poll, Vijayraj Singh Goutham, has shifted his camp to the guest house of the Highways Department in Sankarankoil with electioneering moving into top gear.

He can be contacted on 94890 51193, his assistants Dharmaraj (Sub-Inspector of Police) on 98402 79207 and Srinivasa Rengarajulu (Deputy Block Development Officer) on 94430 91030, for alerting them on any poll code violation.
