Ticketless travel: Salem Rly. Division exceeds target in booking cases

The Salem Railway Division has exceeded the target in booking the commuters travelling without tickets in the trains.

Ticketless travelling is the biggest challenge confronting the Railways, leading to heavy revenue loss. The Southern Railway is taking all effective steps to put an end to ticketless travel by way of increased checks.

Thanks to the initiative taken, Salem Railway Division has surpassed ticket checking targets.

Team

A team of travelling ticket checking inspectors were involved in this drive, over and above day-to-day ticket verification duty in running trains. In addition the officers of the Commercial Branch of the Salem Division also took up individual ticket checking on a regular basis.

In the past three months (from April – June 2016), the Salem Railway Division collected a record sum of Rs. 82.98 lakh towards ticket fare and penalty from the ticket-less travellers.

According to a statement of the Commercial Branch of the Salem division, a total of 18,607 cases of ticketless travel and 843 cases of un-booked luggage cases were booked during this period.

S. Padmavathi, TTI of Salem division has surpassed the target in booking ticketless travel cases. She ensured collection of Rs. 9.06 lakh in the last three months.

Appreciating her achievement, Ajeet Saxena, Chief Commercial Manager, Southern Railway, announced a cash award of Rs. 5,000 to Ms. Padmavathi in appreciation of her efforts in checking ticketless travel. The Chief Commercial Manager also sanctioned a group cash award of Rs. 10,000 to the other TTIs.

In a communication to Hari Shankar Verma, Divisional Railway Manager, Salem, Mr. Saxena commended Salem division for setting a new bench mark and setting a worthy example to the other divisions in the Southern Railway. Mr. Verma congratulated Viju Vin, Divisional Commercial Manager and the TTIs of Salem division, for this fete.
