Three-tier security for EVMs

A three-tier security is in place at the Government College of Technology (GCT) on Thadagam Road, here where the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) are kept for counting on May 13.

All the sealed EVMs from the polling booths in the ten constituencies in the district were transported to GCT under tight security on Thursday morning. The EVMs were kept in separate rooms constituency-wise and the rooms were sealed. City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu told reporters that a three-tier security will be in place with 60 central paramilitary forces posted outside the rooms. He said that a total of 660 police personnel will be on duty round-the-clock and CCTVs will closely monitor the security arrangements.

Sniffer dogs have been pressed into service on the campus and tight security will continue till counting. District Election OfficerandCollector P. Umanath inspected the security arrangements at GCT along with election officials.
