Three workers buried alive in Udhagamandalam

Three workers were buried alive at a power project site on Saturday.

They were engaged in strengthening the entrance of a tunnel being constructed for the Kundah Ultimate Stage Hydro Electric Project at Kaatukuppai about 30 km from here when the earth caved in on them.

They were identified as Marimuthu (45), Anand (25) and Arun Kumar (22) of Srivilliputhur.

The bodies were brought to the mortuary at the Government Headquarters Hospital. The Nilgiris Collector, P. Sankar, visited the hospital and the accident site.

Heavy rains

Sources in the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited said the area had experienced heavy rains over the past few days.
