Three police officials suspended

Three police officials have been placed under suspension in connection with the November 7 attack by caste-Hindus on three Dalit colonies at Naikkankottai Village in the district.

Inspectors V. Jegannathan (Karimangalam Police Station) and J. Rajendran (Kambianallur Police Station) and Sub-Inspector M. Perumal (Krishnapuram Police Station) were suspended two days ago on charges of dereliction of duty. Mr. Jegannathan was charged with failure to prevent the mob from torching the houses of the Dalits, Mr. Rajendran was accused of consuming liquor while on duty in the aftermath of the attack and Mr. Perumal was charged with refusal to accept a complaint by the caste Hindus, a senior police official said.
