The police on Saturday arrested three persons on the charge of cheating people with fake currency notes.

Manikandan of Tharamangalam was looking for a job when he met three persons who promised job at a salary of Rs. 10,000 a month to work as office boy. He began working with them at a private hotel in the city. However, he suspected their activities and informed the Suramangalam police.

Inquiries revealed that Navamani (47) of Tuticorin, Kasi alias Kasinathan (48) of Virudhunagar and Govindaraj (52) of Gorimedu in the city used to deceive customers by offering counterfeit currencies as real currency notes.

The three used to call people and tell that if they dip the black paper in water, it would turn as currency. To make the customers believe, they would secretly apply black colour over the currency and dip it in water in front of the customers. The police registered a case and arrested the three. Bundles of black sheets, cut in the size of denominations, were seized. They were produced in court and lodged at Salem Central Prison.
