Three members of a family were killed on the spot when a portion of the wall of their hut collapsed early on Monday.

Police identified the dead as R. Gunasekar (50), his wife G. Veerammal (35), and their daughter G. Veeramani (4). Paunammal, a relative, raised an alarm on seeing the wall collapse following which the villagers alerted the Fire Services and Rescue Department personnel in Gandarvakottai.

The bodies were extricated from the debris. The Udaiyalipatti police seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. Revenue officials, led by Govindaraj, Tahsildhar, Keeranur, conducted an enquiry.

Sharp showers weakened walls

Sharp showers over the last few months in the district had weakened the walls of the hut and Gunasekar, along with his family, was residing at a thatched structure he had built next to the hut.

On Monday, the weakened walls of the hut had collapsed on the thatched structure killing all the three. Investigations are on.
