Three killed in road accident

Three men from Ayirooppara near Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on a pilgrimage to Rameswaram were killed in a road accident at Nallammanayakanpatti near Kallikudi in Madurai district, close to Virudhunagar district, in the early hours (4.00 a.m.) of Wednesday.

A police officer who was in the vicinity of the accident took place told ‘The Hindu’ that a four-wheeler hit the median, rolled over a couple of times and smashed against the roadside barricade before coming to a halt in the ditch.

The youth who was behind the was reported to have dozed off. All the occupants were thrown out of the vehicle in the impact of the accident. Out of seven occupants, Madhu and Sanjeev were killed on the spot while five others suffered extensive injuries. They were immediately shifted in an ambulance to the Government Hospital in Thirumangalam.

After giving first aid, Arun, Surendrakumar, Srijith, Sibiraj and Anil were shifted to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for further treatment. Of them, Arun succumbed to injuries on the way.
