Three killed in accident near Srivilliputtur

SRIVILLIPUTHUR

Three persons from Pudukottai district were killed in a road accident when a cargo autorickshaw in which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a speeding State-run bus on Madurai-Srivilliputtur highway near Lakshmiyapuram under Nathampatti police station limits around 7.45 a.m. on Wednesday.

The police identified the deceased as K. Vignesh (24), Balaji (21) and B. Mahendran (23), all from Pudukottai district. Two others, R. Mohanraj (23) of Aranthangi and M. Venkateswaran (23) of Pudukottai were admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.

The police said that the victims were working in a unit in SIPCOT in Pudukottai district and were returning home after visiting Rajapalayam in connection with some work.

When they were crossing Mayirulampatti, the State Express Transport Corporation bus, proceeding towards Shencottah from Chennai, hit their vehicle.

Nathampatti police are investigating.
